First and foremost, Disability Action Center NW, Inc. is the only non-profit grass-roots organization that offers personal care services in the top ten counties of Northern Idaho. With DAC’s program, the customer selects, hires, and manages his or her own assistant. Some agencies have told people that they also offer this type of program, but none of them offer the level of assistant management and support services that DAC makes available. Other agencies maintain control and assume responsibility over the services, but with DAC, the responsibility and control over your care lies ultimately with you.

We offer a lot of support to our customers, including a registry of people who want to work as assistants and emergency back-up in some cases. Our program is for people who want tobe in full control of their own care and do not want an agency to “micro-manage” their services. With DAC, you pick the level of support you want with such tasks as advertising for new assistants, communicating effectively, and learning how to better manage your assistant services. You can elect to doeverything by yourself, or request our help.
Please contact us if you would be interested in personal care services through our self-directed program. As most of you know, we are an Independent Living Center and encourage people to be as independent as they wish and stay in their own home as long as they want. If you are not interested in self-directing your services, we are more than happy to give you information about other agencies that provide more traditional, agency-directed care. We understand that our program is not for everyone, as some people do not want the responsibility—and that’s okay. We would much rather have you be happy with another agency than frustrated in ours. <>
