Hi everybody! Although I am not working in the field of assistive technology full time anymore, I am still certified as an Assistive Technology Practitioner and try to stay on top of the field. Assistive technology is a very broad term that relates to any piece of equipment or software that helps people perform a task. Products can range from .25 cent pencil holders to $8,500 communication devices. In every newsletter, I will provide some tidbits of information in this interesting field.

For people who only use one hand, there are many different options to use a computer. On any computer that has Windows 95 and higher as an operating system, it is possible type one-handed on a layout called DVOARK. The good thing about this option is that it is free and already on the computer. Not so good, is that the keyboard letters and numbers are in a different place, so a person has to learn where they are in this “layout” and change the standard layout. |
Different keyboards available ranging in price from $60 to $300. There is also software to teach one-handed typing, among other solutions. Please let me know if you would like more information! <>
